Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data ScamGuard collects, why we collect it, how it is stored, and the choices you have. This is a default policy generated by ScamGuard — please review with legal counsel before relying on it for compliance in your jurisdiction.

Who we are

ScamGuard ("we", "us") operates the website scamguard.live and the ScamGuard WhatsApp bot. The data controller is the ScamGuard team; you can contact us at privacy@scamguard.live.

Information we collect

  • Submissions you provide: text messages, URLs, screenshots, voice clips, phone numbers and any other artifact you ask us to analyse.
  • Account data: if you sign in, your email address and authentication tokens.
  • WhatsApp interactions: your WhatsApp number and the messages you send to our bot.
  • Bank-statement and inbox content (Subscription Shield / Gmail Shield): only the data needed to detect subscriptions and phishing, and only with your explicit authorisation.
  • Usage data: anonymised analytics, error logs, IP address, browser type, device type, and page interactions.
  • Cookies: session cookies for authentication and minimal analytics cookies.

How we use your data

  • To return scam verdicts on the artifacts you submit.
  • To improve detection accuracy across the user base (using anonymised, aggregated data).
  • To maintain a public scam database (only data you explicitly share with the community, and never with personal identifiers attached without consent).
  • To send service emails (alerts you subscribed to, security notifications, account updates).
  • To detect abuse, prevent fraud, and enforce our terms of service.

Sharing

We do not sell personal data. We share data only with the processors required to run ScamGuard (hosting, AI model providers, email delivery, payment processing), and only the minimum needed for those services. We may disclose data when legally required (e.g. valid court order) or to protect users from imminent harm.

Storage and retention

  • Submissions used to compute a verdict are stored to power your history and to improve detection.
  • Bank-statement and inbox data are kept only as long as needed to deliver the feature you enabled, and can be deleted on request.
  • Anonymised aggregates may be retained indefinitely for research.

Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (e.g. GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA), you may have the right to:

  • Access the data we hold about you.
  • Request correction or deletion.
  • Withdraw consent at any time.
  • Object to certain processing.
  • Data portability.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@scamguard.live.

Children

ScamGuard is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced on this page with a new last-updated date.
